I love how whimsical this is! There is a lot going on and I'm not entirely sure of how it all ties together, or the story you are telling. I do enjoy the orange too, its very bright which makes the figures in the back that seem to be monsters of some kind a bit unsettling.
Tina, what an intriguing piece! I can't even begin to guess what you were thinking, but I like that you've left plenty of space for my mind to invent narratives. While the piece is visually strong as it is, it might be stronger with a more considered use of negative space. I find myself wishing that the main figures were smaller relative to the picture rectangle so that the smaller figures in the background could be placed less arbitrarily. In terms of adding or omitting elements, I think you have exactly the right amount of information here. Perhaps affix this to a larger piece of white paper and see what more space opens up?
I like how you've put those realistic human silhouettes next to by the flat and cartoonish figures, I can't tell whether it's cute or a little unsettling. I think the background figure to the left adds dimension, but the one on right looks like it's floating. It might be the size. I like how conservative it is, the figures alone give an idea of ground and sky.
I love the color choice I think it matches the cartoony style so well. It gives it a really fun mood. I do agree with Byrd that some of the figures in the background seem a little bit out of place. Other than that it is a really interesting piece.

ReplyDeleteI really like how playful this is. I love the color choice and I feel like the characters and the yellow tone were the perfect piece to use paper for.
